Everything you need to know about our MIDI Files
MIDI Files are not only used by professional musicians but also by hobbyists and people who would like to get an insight into how a piece of music is put together. By "breaking down" a MIDI File in a standard editor you can then see the structure of the various parts and this provides the opportunity to study and learn the song.
Our MIDI Files have been written by professional musicians to a consistent and high standard. All the files are faithful note-for-note accurate transcriptions of the song.
All songs come with MIDI Lyric data on Track 4 as standard. This allows the lyrics to be viewed for on-screen with the latest hardware, keyboards such as Roland, Korg, Yamaha and Technics for example. Computer sequencer software and Karaoke software programs will also allow lyric display function. Try Vanbasco's player, it's free and probably the best stand-alone player around. Get it here:- www.vanbasco.com
Harmony data is also included on our MIDI Files, where appropriate. This Harmony data in placed on track 5 and can give up to 4-part harmony. The package which we sell on this site also contains lyric text files. So, not only do you get the MIDI Files, you get a lyric text file for each song.
Our MIDI files have been produced to the "General MIDI" standard, to the guidelines of the MIDI Manufacturers Association (MMA)and Roland Japan.
The Midi Files are supplied by download in the form of a Zip file. You will need to "unzip" the file which will then extract the MIDI Files and Lyric text files onto your chosen location on your PC. They can then be transferred onto a 3.5“ floppy disk, USB Stick or Flash Card for use with external keyboard sequencers, midi file players etc. Equally, they can be played on a PC with suitable software. They will play on most media, for example, even Windows Media Player, but you will not be able to view lyrics with WMP. If you download Winamp www.winamp.com, you will be able to see the lyric display feature.
There are no backing vocals on MIDI Files. MIDI Files are instrumentalised, including the melody line and harmonies. Most buyers use the MIDI files for their live acts. However, they will usually edit them accordingly, E.g. change key, remove certain tracks e.t.c.
You can also edit the midi file with the likes of Cakewalk or Cubase, key changes, programme changes, track mute/delete, adjusting controller data, e.t.c. are all possible using editing software such as this.
The playback or editing software we have already mentioned only facilitates the playing of midi files; such software is not responsible for the sound quality produced. The quality of the playback sound depends entirely on the soundcard on your PC or the sound set on your MIDI keyboard. Obviously, the better the sound source the better the MIDI File will sound. If you are dubious about the quality of the sound playback on your equipment, then upgrade your soundcard and you'll be amazed at the results.
Have you tried our MIDI Demo Player at the top of the page? All the demo MIDI Files you hear on the player have been recorded through Cubase using the Roland SC-88 sound set. They have been saved as MP3's. Very simple, but the end result is far superior to than your standard sound card. So you see, MIDI Files have far greater potential than what you may imagine. You can edit them to your own requirements, then encode them into MP3's and perform them as high-quality backing tracks.
